Hello, This is Tim Cowder (Grandson of Gerry August)

 

I was going though my saved e-mails after talking with my kids about the Korean War (I consider myself a lucky man to have children interested in history). I was showing them some pictures and old newspaper clippings I had found on the Internet. The youngest (Liam) had said that "war was bad" (as though the eyes of a 6 year old) and I explained to him that not all things in war are "bad" and that if fought for the right reasons that "war" helps protect good people from bad ones, I also told them (and this is where you guys come in to the conversation) that there is a bond and friendship made with the men and women that fight those wars that is never broken, a friendship and respect that can't be made by any other way. I explained to them how all of you who don't even know me or have ever seen my face, took time out of your lives to send pictures and help me know my Grandfather and the ship he sailed on a bit more, Haydn (the 10 year old girl) said "that was really nice of them" ...... and that is why I am writing. This Holiday season I would just like to take the time to say THANK YOU again for what you all have done for me, I have not forgot it. I hope all of you, and your fellow shipmates have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year!

2011 Reunion

   The Sheraton Charleston Airport Hotel will be our reunion site for the
   2011 Juneau reunion. The rates are $80/day. The dates: September 7th -
   11th, 2011.  The room rates are good five days before and 5 days after
    the reunion.  Reservations may be made by calling toll free 888-747-1900.
   Cut off date: 8/5/2011  Room rate after cut off date will be on a space
   and rate availability basis.  A complimentary 15% discount off breakfast
    in the restaurant, complimentary Historic District shuttle, complimentary
    shuttle to and from the airport,  complimentary shuttle to Tanger outlet
    Mall, complimentary internet access and complimentary parking will be
